‘Penny’ Brown named Miss Porter’s honoree

FARMINGTON — The Alumni Association of Miss Porter’s School chose artist and former Art Department Chairwoman Sara “Penny” Prentis-Brown as its 2009 Honoree during the school’s weekend Reunion Oct. 2 to 4.

Prentis-Brown served as chair of the school’sdepartment from 1968 to 1994 and has been involved in many art organizations over the years including teaching art at the Farmington Art Guild and the West Hartford Art League.

She is also a member of the New Britain Art League, the Connecticut Water Color Society, the Connecticut Women Artists and the New Britain Museum of American Art where her work has been exhibited.

Her work featuring 53 Farmington residents was exhibited in the Farmington Library in 2003. Current Art Department Chairman Grier Torrence said Prentis-Brown had a “large presence in the local art scene” and her tenure at the school was marked by her “color, warmth and humanity.”

Prentis-Brown’s work is on display at the New Britain Art League and the Hospital for Special Care.
