Berlin runs record to 10-0

MERIDEN — Kerry Scalora scored four goals to lead Berlin to a 7-1 win against Maloney Tuesday. Kira Eleveld, Emma Johnson, and Bianca Jaques all scored for the Redcoats. Emma Zerio was the lone scorer for Maloney (1-8-1).

Berlin (10-0) outshot the Spartans 15-2 and Danielle Sweigart had six saves in a losing effort.

Robin Riggott had one save for Berlin. Redcoats head coach Steve Yanosy earned his 100th win.

Farmington 8, New Britain 0

NEW BRITAIN — Tara Fraprie and Jerissa Goncalves each had two goals as Farmington beat New Britain 8-0. Liz Chamberlain, Melissa Scinto, Michelle Truncali and Caitlin Reedes all scored for the Indians (7-2-1).

For the Hurricanes (1-8), Gosia Chwatko had 12 saves in a losing effort.

Farmington keeper Alex Deluse did not have to make a save to earn the shutout.

Farmington outshot New Britain 29-0 and also had 10 corners, to the Hurricanes’ zero.

Southington 1, Simsbury 0

SOUTHINGTON — Devon Thomas broke the deadlock in the second half, and Southington edged Simsbury 1-0 at Southington High School.

Christa Shorette had nine saves and recorded a clean sheet for the Blue Knights (4-6).

Erica Jessen had four saves for Simsbury (6-3-1) in the loss. The Trojans outshot Southington 23-11.

Wethersfield 3, East Hartford 0

WETHERSFIELD — Christina Curnias scored twice and Alyssa Drennen added another goal in the win for Wethersfield (6-4).

Laura Gionfriddo tallied two assists and Lauren Pinney and Kirby O’Keefe also collected assists.

Audrey Hilchuk and Christina Molgelnicki combined to make four saves in the shutout victory.

Boys soccer

Newington 1, Conard 0

WEST HARTFORD — Dan Amato scored a penalty kick which proved to be the only goal of the match, as Newington (5-3-2) clipped Conard 1-0.

Derek Rodrigues made eight saves for Newington, while Tim Meucci and Luke powers made four total saves for Conard (6-3-1). The Chieftains had six corners during the match compared to the Indians’ three.

Rocky Hill 3, Rockville 1

ROCKY HILL — Jon Gill scored twice and Sahid Neto scored another as the Terriers moved to 7-1-2 with a win. They will take on Bloomfield on Friday.

Southington 1, Simsbury 1

SIMSBURY — Goals from Nick DeFeo and Scott Blumenthal kept the score between Southington and Simsbury deadlocked 1-1 at Simsbury High School.

The shots were equal by both teams at seven. The Blue Knights (5-4-1) had three corners to Simsbury’s (4-4-2) zero.

Bristol Central 2, Plainville 1

PLAINVILLE — Allen Mehmedovic scored off an assist from Daquan King in the first half, but two Bristol Central second-half goals sank Plainville (5-5).

Alex Covino and Trevor Beauchamp each scored for Bristol Central.

Kevin Ciotto made 10 saves in goal for the Blue Devils, while Colin Lombardi stopped seven shots for Bristol Central.

Cross Country

MIDDLETOWN — Berlin’s boys and girls cross country teams defeated Middletown. The boys’ win was led by Ricky Lewandowski, with a time of 17:39. Berlin outscored Middletown 25-34. For the girls, the Redcoats outscored the Blue Dragons 21-39, with Kaylene Sylvain, finishing with a time of 22:14.

East Catholic 96, Rocky Hill 73

Lisa Markiewicz won the 50 and 100 freestyle, but Rocky Hill still fell to East Catholic at Rocky Hill. Gabby Brzozowski also won the 100 backstroke, and Alissa Scalise won the 100 breaststroke.

Suffield 93, Plainville 81

PLAINVILLE — Millie Mills finished first in diving and Vikki Sabel came in first in the 400-yard freestyle for the Blue Devils.

Sabel, Erica Mikulak, Marissa Schilling and Nicole Rogan teamed together to finish first in the 400-yard freestyle relay for Plainville (2-4).

The Blue Devils host Maloney on Friday.

Berlin 100, Platt 81

MERIDEN — Sam Degroff won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke as Berlin rolled to a 6-0 mark on the year. Amanda Martino took the 200 and 500 free, and they joined Katherine Burek and Briana Cass to take the medley relay.

Jenna Bell took the 100 fly, while Berlin was 1-2-3 in diving and 1-2 in the breaststroke.

Girls volleyball

Bristol Central 3, Berlin 2

BERLIN — Krystie Luczynski had 31 kills to lead Berlin, but the Redcoats dropped a heatbreaker. After taking the first game 25-18, Berlin lost the next two 25-23 and 26-24.

The Redcoats, behind six total aces by Amanda McCleod, took the fourth game 25-21, but the Rams (7-5) won the deciding game 15-10. Berlin is 7-5.
